Ok, if you have ever wondered how to start a MLM business you have probably been told to make a list of 200 people. Well, don’t worry I am not going to tell you to do that. I mean it is not bad advice but it is probably the last thing most people want to do especially if this isn’t their first foray into multi level marketing. Lets face it, when we join a network marketing company a tiny part of the reason is money, dolla dolla bills yo (sorry 90’s Rap reference). Why not? Time freedom, boss freedom, vacation freedom, bill freedom it’s all appealing, yet so many people fail to even recoup their initial investment.
I remember thinking to myself, I am just missing one thing here and when I finally figure that one thing out things are going to happen for me! Five years later… I was still telling myself the same thing. Well the truth is I was missing one thing…. well 2 things. Customers and Distributors.
At the end of the day this is a people business, and if you are not talking to people you are never going to have a successful MLM business. It doesn’t have to be hard and you do not need to bother friends and family if that is something you are not comfortable with. 2 years down the road when you are cashing ridiculously big cardboard checks friends and family will be begging to join your business.
Let’s get into, How to Start a MLM Business in 2018.
- first and foremost, you need to find a company or a product you are passionate about (if you want to see what I am working on click this)
- figure out who is your ideal customer (what kind of person do you most relate to) The easiest way to do this is to think about your passion or your hobbies, this could be single moms, recovering alcoholics, hikers, boaters, lawyers (ok maybe not the best example) but you get my drift.
- join Facebook groups where the ideal customer you identified above would be in. Hikers Network, Mom Swap, Lipstick Lawyers Group, etc.
- connect with people in these groups (real authentic connections) Comment on their post, like their post, add them as a friend and then send them a message (you may have heard of the C.L.A.M method before Comment, Like, Add, Message) . Hey, I saw your post in xyz group and I couldn’t agree more with what you said, where are you from? ****be genuine****
- ideally you want to connect with at least 5 people per day! This works either online or offline. If Facebook isn’t your thing try Instagram, Twitter or Linked In work as well!
Congratulations, you now have people to talk to about your business. There is no real scientific formula as to when you actually mention your business to a new connection, my advice would be sooner than later. I also feel that the “third party approach” works well. “Hey Ralph, you seem like a sharp guy, would you happen to know anyone who may be interested in making a little extra money? or “Hey Ralph, do you know anyone who might be interested in losing a couple extra pounds? ”
Moving On…. Its crazy how anyone involved with network marketing knows who Ray Higdon or Eric Worre is. Well I recently found a guy who you may have heard of, this guy might be my favourite MLM Guru, if you will. It just blows my mind that I had never heard of him before. His name is Simon Chan, he has a podcast called MLM Nation if you haven’t had a chance you have to go check out his podcast now!
Anyways Simon Chan has a daily method of operations checklist that will pretty much guarantee you success, you already have step two covered. Connect with 5 new people a day. The next step is to invite 5 people to watch your company video or presentation per day. The next thing you need to do each day is follow up with 5 people: recent connections, people from your past, people you have approached about a previous business opportunity. Lastly you need to get 3 people to actually watch your company video, attend your company webinar, or get on a good old fashioned 3 way call. People don’t generally join mlm companies they join people. Whether or not you have ever made a dime in network marketing people will join your vision. If you have a clear vision or purpose behind your mlm business people will join you. If you know what you want and have a step by step plan on how to get there and if you speak from the heart and are genuine about your mission people will resonate with you.
Honestly folks network marketing is a simple business, it is not easy but it is simple. You either need to make that list of 200 people or start connecting (networking) with people and the invite them to look at your business opportunity (marketing).
What is your story? Why are you so passionate about your business? What was your ah ha moment, that lead to you finally starting to have success? Figure out your story and share that with people, you would be surprised how many people will be able to relate to your story. Did you know that network marketing has basically saved my life? It wasn’t some magic pill or lotion that cured my ailment. But network marketing gave me an outlet or at least an alternative for the time and energy I used to spend using drugs and alcohol before I got clean and sober. It gave me a reason to get out of bed in the morning, it showed me that I could become a better version of myself. I can now say that I have been sober over 8 years and clean for over 6 years.
